The origin story of Coast to Coast Books

Meet Ben

Coast to Coast Books is the lifelong passion project of bibliophile and proprietor Ben Gustin.

Growing up, Ben moved frequently, living in four states across two coasts by the age of fourteen. All that moving had one unexpected perk: plenty of opportunities to grow his book collection.

What began with childhood favorites like The Redwall series, Where the Red Fern Grows, Hatchet, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and anything by Stephen King soon expanded beyond books. Inspired by his mother’s career as a percussionist, Ben began collecting concert posters and magazine features highlighting bands she performed with, including Balafon and the Grateful Dead. He also sought out memorabilia from his own favorite artists, from Led Zeppelin and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to classic rock acts of the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.

Today, Coast to Coast Books brings together an eclectic collection of books and ephemera, rooted in the nostalgia of Ben’s upbringing and continually expanding into new stories, artists, and discoveries.
